David Katzenstein
Katzenstein
is based in New York City and for the past 16 years he has traveled
to many countries throughout the world either on assignment for commercial
and editorial clients or to pursue personal projects. During this
time he has had numerous exhibits ranging from his debut exhibit in
New York City at the Marlborough Gallery in 1981, of color work from
Haiti and Mexico to a more recent exhibit of a journey through India.
In February 2000 his exhibition "Distant Journeys: Cultural Explorations
of David Katzenstein" opened at the Lamont Gallery, Phillips
Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire. It was mounted in eight exhibit
rooms and encompassed 20 years of work from around the world. The
180 photographs ranged in size from 11x14" to 40x60".
Katzenstein's recent exhibition at The National Arts Club in New York
opened on May 1st, 2001, and was entitled Wordviews: Ritual and Celebration.
The show was comprised of a selection of 40x60" black and white
prints from all over the world that deal with the subject of ritual.
This exhibition is the launch of a larger project being planned by
the World Studio Foundation, which will travel around the United States
when complete.
In August, Katzenstein will mount a new exhibition of work his travels
to Egypt, titled Egypt: People and Places. It will be on view at The
Half King, a bar/restaurant/gallery on West 23rd Street in Manhattan
that was founded by journalist Sebastian Junger. Cara Sutherland,
Director of Exhibitions for a21group.com, is curating the exhibition.
In August there will also be an on-line exhibition of this work on
the website.
