Michel Comte

Michel
Comte, who was born in Zurich in 1954, developed a love for photography
at the age of twelve. He had a particular interest in the work of
Man Ray, Weegee, and the Swiss photographer Gottard Schuh. He went
on to a career in art restoration, working for Pierre Boissonas, as
well as Bruno Bishofberger and Thomas Ammann. But when that business
took him to Paris, and he was asked to re-shoot a failed advertising
campaign, his career as a photographer began. Since 1979, Comte has
established himself at the forefront of the international photographic
community. His work regularly appears in American, Italian, and German
Vogue, L'uomo Vogue, Vanity Fair, Arude, and Dutch. Some of his commercial
clients include : Gianfranco Ferre, Armani, Givenchy, Dolce&Gabbana,
BMW, Sony, Siemens, Nike and Gap. Despite his numerous other projects,
and his success with fashion and advertising photography, Comte has
never lost sight of his passionate interest in people; a curiosity
that compels him to document human behavior for beyond the confines
of his studio. That desire, and his travels throughout the world,
lead to his collaboration with the International Committee of the
Red Cross (ICRC).
Comte's charitable endeavors do not end there. He is currently setting
up a company which will be called "4", whose sole purpose
is to handle various charity projects. The company's work will be
chronicled in a quarterly magazine of the same name that will be included
as a free insert along with Dutch, the magazine that Comte is now
producing in collaboration with Sandor Lubbe. Each issue of "4"
will be dedicated to a specific charity, and the premier issue will
benefit the ICRC.
