Christian Witkin

Photographer Born in Manchester, England Christian moved from Amsterdam to America at age 17 to attend Syracuse University in Fine Art and Photography. After college he assisted photographers Annie Leibovitz, Bruce Weber, Albert Watson and Peter Lindberg among others.

In the summer of 1993, Christian launched his professional career on assignment for VIBE. Since then his work has been featured in Vogue (British, American, German and Australian), Harper's Bazaar, New York Times Magazine, Details, Interview, Vanity Fair, W, Rolling Stone, i-D Magazine and The Face, amongst others. Campaigns include clients such as the Gap, Esprit, Levi's, Nike, IBM and American Express. Christian has received various awards for his editorial and commercial work, including the Society of Publication Designers Gold Award in Photography and the Vanguard 1998 Fashion Photographer of the Year Award, Tokyo.

His first book, tentatively titled Christian Witkin's India, is due for publication in winter 2002.
