T.
Hopkins

T.
Hopkins was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His first experience
with photography came as a young child. "I used to watch my father
make prints in his basement darkroom of all our cross-country family
trips. We took A LOT of trips in our 1970 Volkswagen camper. He gave
me an old twin-reflex camera to fool around with and I was hooked!"
Hopkins continued experimenting with photography as a freshman in
college, while majoring in Finance at Howard University. After taking
a marketing course, he decided to apply the semesters lessons
and begin a photography business. "it was nothing major, but
it was precursor of things to come. After graduation, I couldn't decide
whether to take a job as an investment analyst or to become a photographer."
He moved to New York in the early 1990s, settled in Brooklyn
and took a job as an art assistant at a major teen magazine. "that
job was a god-send for me. It allowed me to learn and appreciate all
the aspects that go into the creative design process." During
this time, Hopkinsworked with a New York concert promotion team, documenting
their live music shows as well as photographing Bobbito Garcias
Soundcheck Column for Vibe Magazine.
After assisting various photographers in New York, Hopkins struck
out on his own and began working with clients as diverse as Wired,The
Source, MCA Records, Spin and FUBU.
